Sofia Azpurua
Whatever Your Immigration Legal Needs May Be, We Are With You
About
Learning how to advocate for herself as a first-generation immigrant and asylum seeker sparked Sofia's interest in immigration advocacy. During law school, she volunteered as an interpreter at Florida State University's Immigration Rights Clinic and later became the Clinical Director’s Senior Research Assistant. Sofia developed a particular passion for working with juvenile clients and sharing in their experience as immigrant children. She interned for Safe Passage Project in New York City and the American Civil Liberties Union of Northern California. Sofia also participated in various projects with the American Civil Liberties Union of Florida and the International Rescue Committee, including the Shut Down Baker County Detention Center campaign.
Prior to joining Murray Osorio PLLC, Sofia was an Immigrant Justice Corps Fellow at Safe Passage Project, where she represented unaccompanied children in affirmative applications before the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service, and defensive immigration proceedings before the New York City Immigration Court.
Outside of her immigration practice, Sofia is deeply passionate about positively contributing to her community. She often engages in law student mentorship and holds Know Your Rights trainings in local spaces. Sofia also sits on the advisory board of LIFT-New York, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping New Yorkers break poverty cycles.
