Dean Delasalas
Whatever Your Immigration Legal Needs May Be, We Are With You
About
Dean Delasalas is an attorney with a passion for immigration law and immigration issues. While enrolled in the University of Maryland College Park, Dean volunteered for a semester to help immigrants prepare for the citizenship test. Dean also volunteered as a teaching assistant at a local high school to help immigrants learn English as a second language. While studying law at The Catholic University of America, Dean worked as a student attorney representing noncitizens before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and interned at a Virginia-based immigration law firm.
After law school, Dean was hired by the U.S. Department of Justice through the Attorney General’s Honors Program. He first served as an Attorney Advisor for Immigration Judges at the Stewart Immigration Court and the Annandale Immigration Court. Dean drafted hundreds of judicial decisions on subjects including bond, asylum, mental health issues, domestic violence, the immigration consequences of criminal convictions for noncitizens, and terrorism-related immigration issues. He was also temporarily reassigned to serve as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office – District of Columbia, working with survivors to prosecute misdemeanor crimes of domestic violence. Following his time at the immigration courts, Dean served as a Trial Attorney in the Office of Immigration Litigation, representing the federal government in federal court in class-action lawsuits and other challenges to immigration-related agency actions.
Dean’s experience gives him insight into how the government thinks through the law and the impact of that thinking on our clientele and the public at large. His experience also helps him advise clients dealing with sensitive issues like mental health problems, domestic violence, and discrimination, and craft effective arguments that help tell our clients’ stories in a persuasive manner.
